Mental Health and Exercise



Exercise can not only improve your physical health, but also is known to improve your mental health as well! Exercising can increase your energy levels, improve your quality of sleep, decrease anxiety and depression symptoms, and boost your overall mood in day to day life. Exercising can also help mental stamina, which means that exercise can improve quality of sleep, it will also help with mental alertness.


When exercising, your body releases specific "happy" chemicals, called endorphins, that lower our stress levels and boosts our mood. Studies have shown that an exercise regimen and consistency is key to helping many mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and others.


Finding it hard to keep exercising consistently? Here are some ideas to try!

  • Find a workout buddy who can keep you accountable and motivated.

  • Schedule your workouts like you are scheduling an important appointment- no rescheduling or cancelling!

  • Figure out what you enjoy more- do you like going to the gym or doing exercises at home?

  • The night before, sleep in your fitness clothing so you are ready to go right away in the morning.
