One on One Time
The number one thing we recommend at The Kid's Therapy Center is one on one time with your child. Having 15-30 minutes with your child, 2 to 3 times per week (at a minimum) can help with behaviors that are happening at home, struggles with self-esteem, and creating a bond and deepen the relationship with your child. Children crave attention from their parents. During this time, children can lead and pick the activity they want to do with you (within reason), and have your undivided attention they want and crave. This can be as simple as going for a walk, playing a board game, or even doing an art project together.
One on one time is a great way to strengthen the relationship between child and parent, that can make the transition from childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood less stressful and much smoother. This is a great way to build trust between you and your child, as well as build resiliency in the child and a secure attachment style. Although finding time for one on one time can be a challenge itself, it shows your child they are a priority in your life, and can benefit their development socially, emotionally, and give self-regulation skills.
