Intro to Stress, Part 1

thekidstherapycenter

Do we really know what stress does to us? Do we know ourselves well enough to manage it?

Difficulty falling asleep, racing thoughts, digestive issues, negative self-talk and so much more can be signs of stress. Stress is highly talked about, and most people know it’s not healthy for them but don’t make lifestyle changes to properly address it. We tend to raise our children to live a similar lifestyle. Why do we choose to do this? Most want to keep up with society; many do not know their own bodies well enough to stop; and at times it’s not a choice, but simply part of life.

Stress is an adverse mental and emotional state caused by circumstances or events. At times these circumstances are caused by our own choices that eventually overfill our “plate,” or perhaps choices that we “learned a lesson from.” At times it’s caused by an accident, death, or situation that we have no control over. No matter the reason for stress in our life, it is our responsibility to understand how it impacts the body and what can we do to take care of ourselves for short-term and long-term health.
